To start writing code its important to have the necessary tools. I have been using and exploring many tools available in the market from 2016 till date. Many times we go with fancy tool and forget that basic editors - Notepad :) play a fundamental role in editing code. So instead of typing best editors of 2022,2023 and so on. Stick to what fits best and which productive in your day to day activities.

95% of the tools that I have listed are open source and fully tested in production environment by me. I cannot guarantee that it will fully work for your environment. Every developer have a different taste.

The platforms listed supports Linux, Mac and Windows. They are well maintained and supported as I write in 2023.

Code Editors:

  1. VSCodium
  2. Visual Studio Code

Based on your preference and requirement of complete open source, you can choose any from above. I personally use first.

Database Tools

  1. DBeaver - SQL mostly
  2. MongoDB Compass - My first choice NoSQL database

For database I use both above to get started with any db.

Communication

  1. Element - You can join my small community.

Flowcharts

  1. Draw.io

Browsers

  1. Brave
  2. Firefox

In this, I don't have a direct preference from above but Firefox helps me in testing my developed web apps. Brave I use since it helps in privacy and blocking trackers. This is important not to divert your focus during Google Search and hopefully ChatGPT. You do can use ad blocker extension but not all trackers can be blocked without a premium extension.

Task

  1. SuperProductivity

Calendar Booking

  1. Cal.com

Notes writing

  1. Obsidian

If you like my list make sure you get more productive and focus on delivering.

I will keep editing this list as and when needed so keep coming annually :)
